Sri Lanka holidays
A Sri Lanka holiday conjures images of fabulous tropical beaches, lush green hills, jungles, mountains and a blue, sparkling sea. Yet for all the island’s outstanding natural beauty, visitors will be just as captivated by Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, from ancient palaces to Buddhist shrines, from the tea plantations of the colonial era to the seven World Heritage Sites, which include the Cave Temples of Dambula and the Royal City of Kandy. On the west coast of the island, the capital city of Colombo is vibrant and colourful whilst to its south, almost 100 miles of stunning beaches include the picturesque resorts of Kalutara Beach and Beruwela Beach, where watersports abound and the crystal clear waters are a constant companion. See exotic fish while snorkelling or diving, visit the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, marvel at the island's highest waterfall at Bambarakande or feed the baby elephants at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - there's so much to see and do. Eating in Sri Lanka is an experience in itself, with the national dish of curry often laced with enough turmeric, chillies and peppers to keep your tastebuds alert but you will find that most hotels in Sri Lanka cater to every preference. With its warm and friendly inhabitants eager to welcome you to their native land, it is little wonder that Sri Lanka holidays are so popular, that it is so favoured by couples as the setting for their wedding or honeymoon and that this jewel of an island basking in the Indian Ocean is many holidaymakers’ idea of paradise on earth.See hotels available for this destination.
