Maldives The sunshine-blessed Maldives are the perfect place for any castaway, with over a thousand beautiful islands spread across 26 atolls, the ring-like formations that enclose stunning turquoise lagoons and dazzling underwater coral gardens. Rainbow reefs welcome shoals of vibrant tropical fish, with sensational diving opportunities available. Each resort in the Maldives is on its own island and some offer picturesque views of the deep blue Indian Ocean and stilt-mounted bungalows teetering above the sea. Fishing with a pole and line is still a common sight and hints at the history of the islands’ economy, the Maldives being 90,000 square kilometres with 99% covered by the clear seas. Island-hopping is possible by dhoni, otherwise simply lie back and enjoy the glorious sunshine and impeccable beauty of the Maldives, the string of pearls that decorates the Indian Ocean.
