St Lucia

St Lucia is a beautiful Caribbean island which boasts beaches meeting both the Caribbean and the Atlantic for the perfect holiday. St Lucia has a host of rare wildlife and exotic trees including banana, papaya and mango. The history of St Lucia and its ownership is very interesting and you cannot fail to appreciate the influence that these different cultures have had upon this stunning island, even after a few days. St Lucia was first inhabited by peaceful Arawak Indians who were later conquered by their old enemies, the fierce Caribs, after which it was alternately French and British for the next 150 years, before being ceded to the British in 1814. This mix of influences is evident in the mix of languages; although English is the official language, French patois is favoured by the local people. The Caribbean influence fills the atmosphere in the music, which is a heady mix of calypso, soca and reggae, and complements the fine rum and locally brewed beer. St Lucia also offers watersports and the chance to visit the peaks of the Pitons, the Soufriere volcano and a drive-in volcanic crater. Whether you choose to be part of the carnival atmosphere, sample the Creole cuisine or find some adventure, St Lucia is an uncomplicated and unspoilt place where you will certainly enjoy your holiday.
